Why are documentarys important to audiences and institutions?

Different documentary genres appeal to different age groups depending on the topic of discussion and the style/scene set up by use of the editing. Documentaries look upon matters of life including social discussion points, ways of nature and physical well being. The topic of the documentary very much depends on how the mood will be created and the atmosphere as well.

Documentaries are important for audiences as it takes on a different aspects of life and not only can educate but make an audience think differently about that topic under discussion. People often develop their own subjective tastes and interests and so seeing things from others perspectives is difficult and as human beings, and so we are often ignorant about different ways of life. Documentaries are important to teach audiences not just facts, but the realities and gets into depth about different cultures and issues, and so therefore documentaries are important for teaching people alternative ways of living and gives them a better understanding which ultimately will help them to become a better person.

Documentaries are also important for institutions as its a way to voice public opinions and cultures and also to gain a better understanding about their audiences. Institutions can use documentaries to their advantage by reaching out to a public audience by voicing or documenting a popular opinion or topic. By doing so, they can investigate this and find out more about the people who strongly agree or are passionate about this opinion/topic. They then can understand and focus on a target audience and find out new information about that audience and use stereotypes and conventions to their advantage and unravel the truths behind the voice of that specific audience. By doing this, they can then reach out to a target audience or even a secondary audience and gain a further understanding and a potential profit.

Doing this, institutions are also learning and think differently about their target audience, so they can note down for future reference about alternative preferences and opinions that may break the conventions set by stereotypes/archetypes about that age group.

So, to conclude, documentaries overall teach us factual and social lessons of life, giving us a new perspective and maybe even breaking conventions based on what we previously believed was true. This is true for both audiences and institutions and its important that both groups take in this information in order to understand the purpose of a documentary.
